The business

A twelve-seat omakase counter in the Arts District, run by chef Ren Takeda, with two seatings a night from Tuesday to Saturday. Guests come for one evening at the counter, so the site has to show the work behind the meal and make holding seats simple.

What the site does

  • Follows the counter's day from the 6:00 fish market to the 10:30 close, marking where it stands now in LA
  • Lays out three menus, Kuro, Hana and Tsuki ($195 to $295), each opening into its full course list
  • Carries the chosen menu straight into the reservation form
  • Shows a calendar of Tuesday to Saturday evenings, with seats left out of twelve for each seating
  • Takes guests, seating, menu and email, checks availability, then holds the seats with no card taken

How it moves

  • An ink brush stroke sweeps across and 黒花 settles in gold before the page lifts
  • Steam rises from the grill while the hero photo pushes in slowly
  • The day's timeline stays pinned while the photo changes at each step
  • The chef's quote fills in word by word as you scroll

A fictional business made to show what a site like this can do.
